What is the F-1 Student Visa and how do I qualify for it?
The F-1 visa is a non-immigrant student visa that allows international students to pursue full-time academic studies in the US. To qualify, you must be accepted by a SEVP-certified institution, receive a Form I-20, and prove sufficient financial funds to cover your tuition and living expenses.
Can international students work in the USA during their studies?
Yes, F-1 visa holders are allowed to work on-campus for up to 20 hours per week during regular academic semesters and full-time (up to 40 hours per week) during official school breaks and summer vacations.
What is OPT (Optional Practical Training)?
OPT allows F-1 students to gain temporary employment in their field of study for up to 12 months after graduation. Students graduating from STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields can apply for an additional 24-month extension, granting a total of 3 years of work permission in the US.
